I came to Diego Garcia January 15, 2004 from South Dakota. Travel to the island began January 13th and my contract as a Satellite Communications Technician runs through January 13, 2005. Getting here was quite a journey. I flew, via United Airlines, from Sioux Falls, SD, to Denver, CO, then to Los Angeles, CA. From LA I flew, via Philippine Airlines 747, to Honolulu, HI, and to Manila, PI. From Manila I flew to Singapore, where I transferred to a military DC-8 for the final leg of the journey to Diego Garcia. Diego Garcia is an island in the Chagos chain of islands, located about 7 degrees south of the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The island is part of BIOT (the British Indian Ocean Territory).
I will put a variety of pictures in this 'photo album' of some of the people and island scenes that I encountered, while camera was in hand, during the 2004-2005 season. The pictures were taken with my Canon Digital Elph Power Shot S400. It is a 4.0 Mega-Pixel camera. I usually use the 'medium' resolution.
